A Beautiful Rural Town by the Gaoping River
Ancient
Times -
Poets and men of letters often praised the landscapes
in Dashu by intoning poems and verses entitled
the pale river and the autumn moon.
Modern Times -The
honorably retired Gate of the Caogong Irrigation
Canal (the water control gate) has been standing
to the present days since the Cing Dynasty. Despite
its slightly lonely existence, it once wrote a
great chapter in the history of Taiwan’s irrigation
and drainage engineering.
The
old railway bridge over the Gaoping River (the
lower Danshui River) was once the longest of its
kind in Southeast Asia. Despite its bygone glorious
past, homesick locals who left Dashu in the pursuit
of personal success always remember it. the cable-stayed
bridge, the sole dominant existence day and night
in the area, straddles the Gaoping River and has
become the new landmark of Kaohsiung County. the
high quality water and soil give birth to some
of the most exquisite fruits in Taiwan – pineapple
and Yuhebao (or jade purse) lychee. some historic
spots and buildings ranked as national treasures,
such as Jhuliao Water Intake Station, Sanhe Kilnss,
the Old House in Gupoliao, and Jhao-di Lin Ceramics
Studio, have further enhanced the cultural characteristics
and humanistic touch of Dashu. fo Guang Shan Monastery,
one of the Buddhist sacred sites in the world,
makes you feel full of delight in truth and free
of any physical or mental restraint. It thus makes
Dashu the hometown of religion and spirituality.
Dashu boasts rich resources blessed
by nature and cultural legacy. Therefore, it is
the dream and vision of the entire community to
develop Dashu into “a hometown of fruits and a
tourist hub”. We have the potential and charisma.
And the voluntary participation of the community
is a further display of vigor.
Thanks
to the boundless Internet technology, we are able
to give all of you the beautiful “impression of
Dashu” and we hope that you like it. We also strongly
recommend that you take some time off to leave the
hustle and bustle behind and personally visit all
the attractions in Dashu. You can enjoy the landscape
along the Gaoping River and chase the wind on a
bike along the low-water revetment. Or you can look
at the flock of egrets and maiden grass in the distance
and listen to the running water and chirping birds,
allowing your mind to settle down. If you are hungry,
you can choose to replenish your energy at one of
the diners that sell “the thin rice noodles of Dashu”
or with the grass carp relishes under the cable-stayed
bridge. Well, interested? Why don’t you turn your
intention into action? We sincerely invite you to
visit Dashu and you will for sure fall in love with

Dashu is a rural town blessed with the gathering of talents and diverse landscapes. The GaopingRiver runs through the town, bringing abundant water resources. Water has given birth to rich cultures, industries and natural ecosystems, which are interwoven into naturally formed tourist appeals. Examples are Fo Guang Shan Monastery, the hometown of religion and spirituality; the cable-stayed bridge, the magnificent new landmark between Kaohsiung and Pingtung; and widely renowned pineapple and Yuhebao lychee. the completion of the widening project for
Kaohsiung County Roadway #186 to improve the
external link of the central district.
Widen Kaohsiung
County roadway #46 that links Sanhe Village
with Dashe Township to promote the prosperity
of the northern district.
Facilitate the
completion of the expansion project for Roadway
#2-1 in Jiucyutang to improve the external
link of the southern district.
Considerate Services for a Vigorous Community
Establish the
Northern District Medical Service Center to
provide the community with high quality medical
services.
Create an e-Based
Internet Zone for Youngsters.
Offer Consultation
Services for Women and Children.
Provide the
community with legal services.
Promote the
establishment of a team of volunteers that

Safety
Improve
the drainage facilities in the town and solve
the severe flooding problem in the northern,
central and southern districts.
Develop the
Riverside Park and include a bicycle path
along the river and a wetland eco-area in
cooperation with the county government to
provide the community with a quality leisure
location.
Put the practices
of recycling and garbage reduction in place
and enhance the beautification of the town
to leave the generations to come with a beautiful
and clean environment.
Assist schools
to become part of the community as a park
to provide the local people with excellent
exercise and leisure space.
Promote Jhuliau
Shooting Range to become a natural eco-park
that caters to environmental protection, water
preservation and ecosystem recovery.
